The ANBA calendar year is split into 4 seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn. Each season comprises 13 weeks of play, the first 10 of which comprise League events, all held on consecutive Monday evenings. At the end of each program of 10 League events, the seasonal League Cup is held. The 2 vacant Mondays at the end of the league are allocated to either committee meetings, or novelty events (for example doubles tournaments, team events, other American pool disciplines and the increasingly popular "Pool Olympics") In addition, the Aberdeen Singles is held in September or October every year, followed by November's flagship event, the ANBA Open. In summary, a tournament is held on almost every Monday night of the year at the chosen ANBA venue (currently Rileys Chapel Street); a League Cup is held in March, June, September and December (seeded, triple ranking points), and the Aberdeen Singles (seeded, quadruple ranking points) and ANBA Open (unseeded, quintuple ranking points) follow in October and November respectively. Other prestigious tournaments have been known to take place- for example the SAPPA and UK Tours have held tour-stops in Aberdeen, and Falkirks Jim Beam Masters event held 4 qualifying legs in Aberdeen in 2004. |
